The Cybils is the first award created by book bloggers in the children’s and young adult readers’ communities. The first awards were given in 2006, and have been presented annually on February 14 every year since. From the Website:

The Cybils Awards aims to recognize the children’s and young adult authors and illustrators whose books combine the highest literary merit and popular appeal. If some la-di-dah awards can be compared to brussels sprouts, and other, more populist ones to gummy bears, we’re thinking more like organic chicken nuggets. We’re yummy and nutritious.

Panelists and judges for the Cybils Awards include parents, librarians, educators, authors, and illustrators who blog regularly about children’s and/or young adult literature. The Award Categories include audiences from toddler to teen. What makes the Cybils process unique and amazing is that the books are nominated by people just like you who read with children (and teens!) and are searching for the best books to share. The Reading Tub has been reading and reviewing Cybils-nominated books since 2008. Our reviews are our own, and do not reflect the opinions or decisions of the Cybils process.
