The Reading Tub believes that reading gives each of us an opportunity to broaden our worlds. When we share a book with a child we are opening their minds to possibilities, taking them to places near and far, and building critical social skills of empathy and compassion.

Readers should not only be able to see themselves in a book but also see/feel/share others’ experiences. As the saying goes:

books are mirrors, windows, and sliding doors

For us, diverse books are not just about characters of color. It is about inclusion in all its forms, across various communities, whether special abilities, gender, or religion – among others. Here are our lists, sorted by audience.

Look for our hashtag #wereaddiversebooks on Twitter and Instagram, too.
