Monday Blurb: Books for Christmas
Happy Holidays all! Things will be quiet around here this week, as I have pledged to be offline and enjoy the family. Catherine is still sleeping, so I’m dropping by to say hello, put together our annual list of reading treasures, and send you off to Vancouver, Washington, where Jone MacCulloch is hosting Nonfiction Monday at Check It Out,
Family and friends know us well … we had lots of books under the tree. Technically they are all for Catherine, but since we read aloud as a family, we’ll all get to enjoy them. My favorite Christmas gift (beside the hot chocolate maker) …
On Christmas morning Catherine came running down the stairs. It was still so dark in her room that she didn’t see The Christmas Sweater and the matching snow globe Santa left … She went to the tree, and after her initial “oh wow, I didn’t get coal” she made a beeline for the set of Harry Potter hardcovers. “This is so cool. I always wanted these.” Then, after breakfast we couldn’t get her off the couch because she was busy reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
Here is an annotated list of the books we’ll be enjoying in 2011.
by Jane Parker Resnick and Rebecca L. Grambo, illustrated by Tony Tallarico
(Kids Book, 2006)
xxx
by Jane O’Connor; illustrated by Robin Preiss Glassner
(HarperCollins, 2009)
Grandma and Catherine enjoyed reading Fancy Nancy together earlier this fall, and Grandma wanted to add to the collection of books they can share together. My Mom had gotten Catherine a few Fancy Nancy books in the past but they hadn’t read them together (we have read them TONS!). Now they have something to enjoy together.
Fancy Nancy’s Splendiferous Christmas
by Jane O’Connor; illustrated by Robin Preiss Glassner
(HarperCollins, 2009)
Grandma and Catherine enjoyed reading Fancy Nancy together earlier this fall, and Grandma wanted to add to the collection of books they can share together. My Mom had gotten Catherine a few Fancy Nancy books in the past but they never sat to share them together. Mom and Dad are spending New Year’s weekend with us, so they’ll have plenty of chance to share the new titles together … I bet there’s a spa day involved!
Felicity Saves the Day: A Summer Story
by Valerie Tripp
(American Girl Publishing, 1992)
Several years ago Catherine’s godmother sent her a Felicity doll. We kept it until we thought she was old enough to appreciate it. When we were in Williamsburg to celebrate our anniversary we got a set of Felicity books.
Happy Birthday Felicity! A Springtime Story, 1774
by Valerie Tripp, illustrated by Dan Andreason
(American Girl Publishing, 1992)
When we were in Williamsburg to celebrate our anniversary we got a set of Felicity books. I will add that she has been carrying her Felicity doll EVERYWHERE with her. I hope we haven’t created an American Girl fanatic!!
Harry Potter, Books 1 through 7
by J. K. Rowling, illustrated by Mary GrandePre
(Scholastic, 2007)
I know, the rest of the world has already read these … but we’re just starting them in our house. We wanted to wait until the three of us were all ready to enjoy them together. Thanks, Santa! Catherine of course wanted the movies to go with them. Nope. Gotta read the books first
Lady Margaret’s Ghost (A Felicity Mystery)
by Elizabeth McDavid Jones
(American Girl Publishing, 2009)
Several years ago Catherine’s godmother sent her a Felicity doll. We kept it until we thought she was old enough to appreciate it. When we were in Williamsburg to celebrate our anniversary we got a set of Felicity books. Catherine loves mysteries, so I thought this would be a perfect selection.
Meet Felicity: An American Girl, 1774
by Valerie Tripp
(American Girl Publishing, 1991)
This is the book that came in the box with Felicity.

Monday Blurb: Books for Christmas: Santa, family and friends have added to our must-read collection with lots of… http://bit.ly/eVySqp
If I had a little girl I know I would be all about getting the Fancy Nancy books. They look so fun!

What was your favorite book left under the tree? http://t.co/F4eyA4U
My family started using Readeo.com
Its nice because my kids can read bed-time stories with their grandpa who lives 5 states away! My dad isnt very techy, but he finds it easy to use and very enjoyable. Its like skyping and children’s eBooks rolled into one.
