Monday Reading & Literacy News
This week Jen and I have moved the weekly Literacy and Reading News Roundup to September 1. We’re going to make a few tweaks and we thought the first day of a new month would be a great way to share the new ideas. So fear not, Jen will have the Roundup at Jen Robinson’s Book Page tomorrow morning … in time for that second cup of coffee!
In the meantime … here are a couple of items to get your week started off right.
Have you stopped by the Cybils blog lately? Isn’t that image just SO-O-O cool? Uber-kudos to the creator (Sarah Stevenson). If you’d like to learn more – or want to be a panelist or judge for the 2009 Childrens and Young Adult Bloggers’ Literary Awards, you need to go here first, and then here. Squee – It’s just 31 days until the voting opens!
September is Library Card Sign-up Month! Wouldn’t it be cool if you could design your own card? If you can design something unique to borrow money, why can’t you make a one-of-a-kind card to borrow books? What would be in your wallet? Shall we make this a challenge for September? Create your library card (I used Paint) and write about a favorite library experience or librarian? If you’re in, leave a comment. If I get ten people, I’ll write the post and get the conversation started. If you have other ideas, be sure to stop by the Kids! @ your library® Campaign wiki to share.
Sarah is hosting the August 2009 Carnival of Children’s Literature at In Need of Chocolate. Whether you’re already in “back-to-school mode” or trying to gear up, Sarah’s collection is a great way to get you in the right frame of mind!
Shirley Duke is hosting Nonfiction Monday at Simply Science today. While I was scrolling down to read her review of Faces of the Moon, I spotted Ouch! How Your Body Makes it Through a Very Bad Day. Seems apropos for a Monday don’t you think?
