30 Minute A Day Learning System: Grade 1
One chapter at a time, children work through exercises that help them with letters and words, numbers and math, money, basic patterns, and more.
This is a well-constructed workbook for helping kids practice basic reading and math skills. The design is flexible, and you can use the parts that are most helpful to your child's learning.
Although there are animal characters that need help solving problems, there is no story that connects them to the lesson. Some students may be looking for more "back story" for their work.
There were days our child was excited about jumping into the workbook and days that she wasn't. She was less interested in coloring the finished picture than she was in going to the next lesson.
We used this over the summer, taking it one chapter at a time. The lessons are short and help reinforce what she learned in Kindergarten. Although the book says to go in order, once school started, we found it more useful to select a chapter that corresponded with her classwork, particularly if she needed additional practice in an area.
This is a workbook for first graders.
This is a workbook. There are answers in the back to help you determine where your child may need additional practice. Each lesson offers practical ideas for "outside learning" that can help reinforce the knowledge.

Buy. This isn't the type of book you would borrow at the library. It is very useful in the summer as a way to prepare your child for more advanced learning, or as a tool to reinforce what they have studied in school.
