Two friends, Mouse and Mole, have a number of adventures together. One day, Mole wakes up and finds he has holes in all of his clothes, so Mouse takes him to the store to find some new ones. After shopping Mole and Mouse decide to go out fishing. They think they have caught a big fish but it turns out to be an old tire. In the last story, Mouse fixes Mole's clothes while Mole is out making a tire swing for Mouse to enjoy.
New readers will enjoy this story that is similar to several other easy reader friends, including Frog and Toad.
My daughter enjoyed how the two characters interacted with each other. She liked the different activities they did together. She also liked that they were helping each other without realizing the other was doing something special for them.
I enjoyed the message of friendship, as well as how they each did something nice for the other without expecting anything in return. I wasn’t sure she would like the book as it was just about two animals and what they did. I was pleasantly surprised when she wanted me to keep reading to see what adventure they entered next.
This is an easy reader book to help transitional readers.
This is a book for emergent to transitional readers (Grades 1 and 2). The stories move more smoothly than some early readers, and there is enough suspense to keep readers moving. You can explore the themes of friendship, caring, and selflessness.
