Abadaba Alphabet; Learning Letter Sounds

Rhyming poems with letter sound repetition introduce children to the alphabet.

Reader Enjoyment Factors:

This is a book that has great potential for young listeners. The alliteration and repetition (not to mention the illustrations) make it fun for the children, and may encourage them to put sounds together for themselves. Books with CD are a nice complement to Mommy and Daddy reading!

Content Awareness Factors:

This isn't a bedtime story. You will want to share it during the day. It could get tiresome after a while, so you will definitely want to use the CD to encourage independent "reading."

Little Kid Reaction

Our child liked this book, particularly the nonsense words and creative imagery (such as cows in cantaloupe canoes). We didn't have to go too many pages before we had some help with the reading.

Parent Reaction

Mom liked this more than Dad did. Although our child is already familiar with letter sounds, this book could come in handy as we begin to read in earnest ... there is a lot of repetition of sight words.

Type of Book:
This is a picture book for letter recognition and sound. It comes with a CD.
Educational Themes:

This is a book about teaching letter sounds and when read together, helps connect the letter visually with its sounds. You can easily move beyond the book and have fun creating your own words.

Reading Level:
Recommended Age To Read By Yourself:
6 to 9
Recommended Age To Read Together:
3 to 8
Age of child:
Read with 4-year-old child.
Purchase Recommendation:
Borrow, at least. This is a great book for preschoolers (and kindergarteners) who are learning their letter sounds. Children with speech delays may also find this a fun way to practice their skills.
