An African Abc

This ABC book features plants, animals and culture from Africa. This book is written in verse and contains a glossary at the end.

Reader Enjoyment Factors:

There are lots of positives: illustrations and variety of items unique to Africa that are listed. The thick paper and sturdy binding help, too.

Content Awareness Factors:

The first word in the glossary is “Aardvark- antbear or anteater….” Although an aardvark is similar in diet and general appearance to an anteater, they are absolutely different animals, found on different continents.

Little Kid Reaction

Our child enjoyed the verse and liked trying to figure out which pictures matched the new words we learned. S/He also enjoyed finding the boy, girl, and cat that are illustrated on each page.

Parent Reaction

This book is great. Not only did my child learn new words, I did too. The illustrations are good and the verse makes it more interesting to younger children. The glossary in the back is very detailed and informative.

This is a poetic alphabet book.

This is one of the great ABC books that goes beyond letters and object identification to true learning.
