animals talk

Summary:
There is one animal per page spread, with the animal on the right page and a single word that describes the way the animal talks ("moo", "ribbit", etc.). The unique feature of this book is that it has raised areas of the page that correspond with a pattern on the animal, such as frog warts or bee stripes. This creates a texture pattern on the animal, which has been enlarged to fill the left side of the page.
Educational Themes:
This is a great book for object identification. Recognizing animals and matching their sounds. The pages and animals open the door to talking about colors, too. For preschool-aged kids you might talk about habitat.
Reading Level:
0.5
Recommended Age To Read By Yourself:
4 to 6
Recommended Age To Read Together:
0 to 4
Age of child:
Read with boys ages 2 and 4.
Purchase Recommendation:
Buy or borrow. this won't be a long-lived book, but it is a great one for young toddlers to explore on their own.
Little Kid Reaction
My 2 year old loved the book, particularly when he read it with his 4 year old brother.
Big Kid Reaction
I liked the colorful pictures and the stimulating textures caused by the raising of the page surface. I was less impressed by the lack of words on each page -- only 1 word, the animal's sound, was on each page. However, we made up for that by using the textures as a starting point for discussion, whether related to the sound the animal makes or something else related to the animal.
Pros:

Colorful pictures, wonderful-stimulating textures make this a great book for young children to enjoy and "play" with.

Cons:

The text left something to be desired.
