Are You Ready To Play Outside (An Elephant And Piggie Book)
Gerald the elephant and his best friend Piggie are going to play outside. Piggie is looking forward to running, jumping, and skipping; but it begins to rain and Piggie is “not a happy pig.” Jut when they realize that they can also have fun in the rain, the sun comes back out! Piggie is again “not a happy pig.” Gerald proves what a great best friend he is by coming up with an idea that saves the day.
This is a book everyone can love. Many phrases are repeated, which helps new readers, and there are very few “big” words. The characters are really endearing.
None.
My son picked out this book because he loves this series. He keeps asking to meet the author. He Loves the parts where the characters are shouting and the words are all in large print caps. He also really likes the color changes in the word Balloons between Gerald and Piggie.
I like this book because it gets my son animated in the story. It is easy to read, with very few words on a page. I actually think this book is a little easy for my son (he is an advanced reader) but he loves the illustrations and I think he likes the fact that he can read through it quickly, so he doesn’t get bored.
This is one of the titles about two friends that comprise the heart of Mo Willem's series for beginning readers.
Like the other books in the series, the story helps new readers AND teaches the value of friends working together and taking care of each other.

Read with a 6-year-old boy.
Buy. Although I don't personally buy books for my son that aren't chapter books, these are great stories and several of them together would make a nice gift for a developing reader.
