On his walk through the woods, a little blue monster greets everything he sees with a kind "hello." When he sees a group of colorful bunnies, he gets very excited, and using his biggest outside voice calls to them, too: B-U-N-N-I-E-S. They run away and he looks for them Every time he finds them, he gets excited and they hide. Now he is sad. Will he ever find friends?
Cute. Kids will totally relate to the blue monster - his joy and excitement, as well as his sadness. The combination of traditional pages and comic-book-style panels is engaging and really helps to keep the story moving. It is a story that lets readers stay in the moment but then reacts as they would when the next distraction comes along.
The jacket flap names the monster "Declan," but since it isn't used in the story, I didn't use it in my review. What would be MORE fun than adopting the author's suggestion of Declan would be to let your kids name the monster. You'll definitely want to read this with emotion.
Highly recommended for toddlers and preschoolers. Kindergarteners getting ready to read will enjoy it as well. With its simple, repetitive vocabulary, Bunnies! would be a nice choice for kids getting ready to read.
An adorable blue monster, cute colorful bunnies, and a story that meets kids right where they are. This is one you'll read a few times and then your toddler or preschool will read to you!
This is a picture book about a little monster trying to find friends, but not quite knowing how.
Young readers are instantly going to be drawn to the blue monster's perspective because he is center stage. Take the opportunity to flip the story and ask your reader to be the bunny. What would they say? What emotions do they have? What made them change their mind about spending time with the blue monster? How did they feel when the blue monster left them for the birdies?
