cosmos' blended family (the playdate kids)

Summary:
Cosmos lives with his dad during the week and his mom on the weekends. When his dad fell in love and remarried, Cosmos got a new family. Ellen was nice, but what about Mom? Cosmos tells us about his feeling and his new life.
Educational Themes:
This is a book that presents and helps kids deal with divorce and remarriage. Kids will be able to relate to the main character, and there are plenty of points in the story where you can pause and discuss ideas or emotions. There are tips in the back, as well as ideas on ways to bring the family together.
Reading Level:
2.9
Recommended Age To Read By Yourself:
7 to 9
Recommended Age To Read Together:
3 to 6
Age of child:
Read with a 7-year-old girl.
Purchase Recommendation:
Borrow. This is a story that could be read a couple of times, but once the audience has worked through their emotions, they won't come back to this.
Little Kid Reaction
She listened to the story, but didn't connect to it. She hasn't experienced divorce or remarriage in her life.
Big Kid Reaction
This is a well-told story. The text is presented simply so that kids who want to work through their feelings alone can read it (or look at the pictures) by themselves. Although the plot focuses on divorce, there are parallels that would work with families who have adopted a sibling, i.e., expressing feelings and accepting change.
Pros:

Newly blended or created families will find this book helpful. It offers them a positive story that expresses feelings and shows that everyone's feelings need to be respected.

Cons:

None.
