Dixie Wins The Race (I Can Read, Level 1)
Emma is in a relay race, and Dixie is there to cheer her on. It is hard for Dixie to sit still when the girls run by with the stick! Dixie cheers for Emma - so loudly that Emma falls and drops the baton. Oh, no! Who will finish the race?
Young readers will cheer for Emma and Dixie in this beginning reader.
Although a small point, it bugged me that Dixie won the race. In reality, the team would be disqualified. You don't need to end on a down note, but you don't need to be unrealistic, either.
This is a cute story, and the first time you read it, you get as antsy as Dixie. The author does a great job building the story with action and a bit of suspense, yet repeating sight words consistently enough to help readers keep going.
This is an early reader about the friendship between a girl and her dog.

Borrow. This is an engaging story for developing readers. However, your child will grow out of it quickly.
