For example, actively engaging readers in the period by having them make a family coat of arms, create court costumes, or play a game of Nine Men Morris.
This is a nice way to engage kids in the biography genre. It is perfect for classroom or homeschooling use.
My reader thought the book was interesting but didn't want to do any of the activities since it was "summer vacation" time!
I thought the book was excellent. The timeline is well illustrated; the activities help kids better understand life in a different era, and the book offers an excellent overview and resources.
This is an interactive biography for upper elementary kids that makes history come alive.
The book is all about Elizabethan England, and gives kids an opportunity to explore different aspects of life. You can contrast / compare life then and now, but you might also look at activities (like games) and see if there are things they recognize in games they play (or have heard about) even today.
