Even though she has visited her new school, Emily is nervous about actually going there. As the students introduced themselves, Emily realized that some of her classmates lived nearby. She was so into drawing that she didn't hear the bell ring ... and she couldn't wait to tell her mom about her first day of school.
This is a nice story for opening the discussion with your child about how they feel about school. There are also some suggestions from a child psychologist included in the back.

Borrow. This is a nice story but the topic is seasonal and your child's interest will be short lived.
I liked the approach that the story took and how Emily tried to figure things out for herself (asking a neighbor who has been at the school for two years). I was surprised to see how much text the story has. It is well presented, but in thinking of a typical 4-year-old (who would most benefit), I'm not sure they'd sit still.
Emily is a character that every child going to school can relate to. She is excited but nervous. The story does a nice job presenting a typical day.
The level of detail and story length could be too much for some audiences.
