Bianca Olivier attends the prestigious Evernight Academy. She has made only a few friends, and chooses to mingle with fellow outcast, Lucas Ross. Lucas and Bianca begin dating, which leads to unexpected consequences. Their intimacy stirs Bianca's longing for Lucas' blood, revealing her, and Evernights, darkest secret: although humans also attend Evernight, Evernight Academy is a school founded for vampires. It takes many weeks for Bianca to regain Lucas' trust, and just as the two manage to mend the fissure between them, something else comes between them. This inveterate difference also ties in both Lucas' and Bianca's families, separating them indefinitely. In the end, Bianca must choose between love, and everything she's ever known to be true. What will she do?
Young adults will find a little bit of everything they like in this vampire-themed book.
I wouldn't recommend this book to many. The vampirism mentioned is extremely intense and a lot darker than the vampirism readers have come to be acquainted with in Twilight. Some aspects of this book were exaggerated to a point where they became somewhat detached from the real world. The characters became too much like their archetypes to seem real and the vampire aspects often seemed a little too violent.
Teen 1: This is a Young Adult book for readers 13 and up. As books go, Evernight is fairly captivating. There's action, adventure, history, and romance. The book captures quite a few of the characteristics every good book needs quite well, but some of its other aspects don't flatter it very well. Evernight is a book I might borrow from the library, but I wouldn't buy it for a second time through.
Teen 2: The book has sexual themes, including an allusion to Bianca and Lucas having sex, but it is otherwise very mild in terms of graphicness. The book is certainly more complex, more well written, and with more interesting themes than its teen vampire series counterpart, Twilight. I highly recommend this book for any young girl or woman.
Teen 3: Evernight is a passionate, tear-inducing tale! Once I picked it up, I truly couldn't set it down. An amazing dive into the world of the vampire. This is a recommended read for any and all who enjoyed books like the Twilight Saga and House of Night.
