Fancy Nancy in an Easy Reader
Fancy Nancy loves her tutus. Her closet is full of them. Too full. When her mother tries to clean out the too-small tutus, Nancy has an idea for re-purposing each one. At school, Ms. Glass measures each student and shows them how they are all growing, She suggests a Swap and Shop so everyone can bring in their too-small fancy clothes to "buy" clothes with tickets they've earned. Nancy finds a new tutu, but Grace saw it first! Is there anything else fancy enough left to buy?
Fancy Nancy fans will enjoy this clever, fast-paced story. Their moms will love the power of suggestion in getting their daughter's closet cleaned out.
None.
I enjoyed Too Many Tutus. It is very inspiring for young readers and they can relate to the story. There is a good lesson on managing money (i.e., learning how to manage tickets to purchase things that you want). I also liked how it illustrated ways to "donate" items and get new ones without a lot of cost. I would definitely recommend this book to young children learning to read. It is fun to read aloud or read independently.
I will admit that I've been a Fancy Nancy fan for a long time. The stories are clever and I love the way the author weaves in words to broaden a child's vocabulary. Now, with this easy reader, the author kept the model (though not as many French words) but found words that new readers can decipher themselves. Tres magnifique!
This is an easy reader story featuring Fancy Nancy.
This is a story designed to help new readers, which it does fabulously. You could also use this book as a way to talk about growing up and getting too big for things, and use that as a way to involve kids in weeding out toys, clothes, etc.
