Audra Ellison knows three things. One, she is a firstborn - a direct female descendant of Elizabeth Bathory; two, why she went to such lengths to have her memory erased; and three, she will never live freely because Nikola and the Historian - now having joined forces - will pursue her until they get want they want. After centuries killing of innocent people, Audra intends to put an end to this war. Is she ready to risk it all?
Firstborn jumps right in where Progeny left off. Audra gives us a short recap and then we're off. Lots of action is packed into small windows of time, and the author does a magnificent job building the energy and tension, as well as sustaining the mystery. Readers are likely to read this in a sitting or two, and be ready for their own trip through Europe when its done.
Exceptional writing underly this fast-paced adventure with twists and turns that keep readers on the edge of their seat.
The main characters are young adults. Although not graphically detailed, there are scenes/references to Audra and Luka's sexual relationship. The underlying premise is a war, and there is violence. Again, not particularly graphic, but some readers may find it unsettling.
This is an adult crossover adventure that will appeal to young adults.
This is a historical fiction adventure. The author points out in the back that a good bit of the story is built on Elizabeth Bathory and her place in history. Readers are very likely to be intrigued to learn more about her and her times.
