Gone
It was just an ordinary day in Perdido Beach. Everyone where they are supposed to be: small kids in daycare, big kids in school, Moms and Dads at work. Poof! Life changed in an instant, and everyone 14 and older is gone. Like everyone else, Sam, Astrid, Edilio, and Quinn are trying to piece things together. But finding the answers isn't enough. Trouble is brewing as the bullies and the delinquents from the Coates Academy vie to seize power of this new world called the FAYZ (Fallout Alley Youth Zone).
Teens and adults alike will find this novel intriguing and hard to put down.
None, really. There is some violence. It is completely related to the storyline. Those totally opposed to or frightened by war-like descriptions may want to read around those passages.
Teen reviewer: Gone was an exceptionally well-written book, but even still there were a few areas that need to be addressed. There is still an unanswered question (how did this strange world get created), and it ends to abruptly. Thie overly brief conclusion is an eyesore in this otherwise impressively written novel.
Gone is phenomenal. It is one of the best books I have read in my life. Unlike most other books that start off with a slow-paced introduction, Gone jumps right in to set a fast pace and immediately leaves the reader with a myriad of questions. Another thing that makes Gone stand out is how certain events are told from more than one perspective. Writing a story in this fashion has a major drawback: chronological confusion. However, Grant was able to seamlessly integrate the various perspectives into an intricate, yet comprehensive storyline. It allows the reader to be fully immersed in the storyline, further adding to the addictiveness of this book. I would recommend this phenomenal novel to everyone above the age of 12. I have a feeling that it might be the next Harry Potter or The Lord of the Rings some day. Thank you for introducing me to it!
Wow! This is one of those books whose events and characters stay with you well past the time you stop reading it. The plot is fascinating and frightening, captivating and fierce. The author has created a collection of teens that readers will instantly relate to, quickly choosing sides for themselves.
This is a fast-paced science fiction fantasy for teens and is a sophisticated story for young adults (high interest / low readability).
Although strictly intended as recreational reading, in a classroom setting, it could be the catalyst for some incredibly fascinating discussions about power, teamwork, government, even parenting!
