Spacesuits, Aliens & Video Games!

Summary:

With the help of some updated video space suits, Herbert and Alex find themselves 100 years in the future. They quickly learn that aliens, the G’daliens, have taken over their town. Humans and G’daliens seem to coexist peacefully – except for GOR-DON, the janitor at the museum where the boys landed. What tricks does GOR-DON have up his slimy tentacles? Can the boys save their town and themselves? How can T-Ball have changed so much in 100 years?

Reader Enjoyment Factors:

This book was funny. It was very current and trendy, with elements of science-fiction and friendship. This story is fast-paced and very up to date technologically.

Content Awareness Factors:

The biggest con is that this book should have been about half as long. Everything is described in too much detail. Also, the cartoon artwork didn’t seem right to me – not “cartoony” enough.

Parent Reaction

I thought this book was Okay. It had a good concept, but was very wordy, and kind of lost my attention. That said, it would be great for reluctant readers, because it has lots of cartoons.

Type of Book:
This is a novel with aliens, video games, and time travel, told in verse and cartoons.
Educational Themes:

I think this book is for enjoyment only – no educational value, but a fun read.

Reading Level:
4.0
Recommended Age To Read By Yourself:
10 and Up
Recommended Age To Read Together:

Purchase Recommendation:
Borrow. Personally, I would skip this book, but I think both of my boys (ages 10 and 13) would read it and say it was a good book.
