Part Dancing Princess, Part Murder Mystery, Completely Unpredictable

Summary:

In the last six years, Annaleigh Thaumus (18) has lost her mother and four oldest sisters. The People of the Salt are convinced that the Thaumus family has been cursed by their gods. Her father, the Duke, leads Salten, and her sister Eulalie is in line to inherit the dukedom. When Eulalie dies, Annaleigh suspects foul play and begins to investigate her sister's death. When Annaleigh and her youngest sister Verity begin to see visions of their dead sisters, Annaleigh is convinced that dark magic is involved and that her sisters are stuck on earth seeking justice for their deaths.

As part of her investigation, Annaleigh, her living sisters, and their childhood friend Fisher discover a secret passageway that leads to far-off lands and alluring balls. They begin to escape each night to dance their hearts and grief away but Annaleigh quickly realizes that something is amiss. Accompanied by a mysterious traveler named Cassius, Annaleigh sets out to find the truth behind the mysterious balls and how they are connected to each of her sisters' deaths. If she can't, she'll be next to die.

Teen Student Reviewer (19):
I liked this book and it wasn't at all what I expected. There were many twists and turns and the author keeps you guessing at every turn. Whatever the reader is expecting from the book, they will definitely be surprised. If you are interested in horror and the macabre, this book is definitely a good option. It is weird, unexpected, and keeps the reader on their toes. Another pro is that Annaleigh is a likable leading lady and the book has an engaging cast of characters.

I don't like horror at all and I still was able to read it and enjoyed it very much, but I recommend reading it in the daytime if you are like me. I would read this book again, and I'd also buy it. It is unpredictable, and I myself will be giving it a re-read to pick up on any clues and foreshadowing.
