Joe (a giraffe) sees a brightly colored convertible by the zoo gate. He won a contest, so this must be his prize! He loves to explore new things and he invites his friend Sparky (a turtle) to take a ride. Sparky likes his quiet life, but he decides to go along. On their adventure, the friends stop to get French fries at a restaurant, buy lots of new things at a store, and even get the car washed!
Two friends on an adventure will keep kids' attention in this humorous chapter book for transitional readers.
I picked out this book, and as soon as my daughter saw it she took it from me and sat down to read! I think the cover and the pictures helped win her over and made her want to see what it was all about. She laughed at Sparky and Joe when they drove the car into a gate trying to get back home. She also said she agreed that being home where you are comfortable is the best place to enjoy your day.
This was fun to read. It's not a book you can do in one night (because of the chapters), but it offers a fun adventure in an easy-to-understand format. I liked that the two friends tried something new and didn’t care about what anyone else was saying about them.
This is an easy-reader chapter book for developing readers.
The level of adventure and humor in this book will help keep the attention of kids who are ready for longer easy readers. The characters are developed enough that you can talk about their personalities: turtle likes to stay home; giraffe likes adventure, but they both learn something about themselves.
