Kitten's First Full Moon

Summary:

A young kitten sitting on the porch discovers a bowl of milk in the sky (the full moon). She tries everything she can to reach it.

Reader Enjoyment Factors:

It's a fast read. Toddlers can grasp all of the concepts (climbing, reaching, jumping); and the language is simple enough for early readers to read themselves.

Content Awareness Factors:

None.

Little Kid Reaction

This was an immediate hit. S/he wants to read it at least twice at every nap and at bedtime. She especially likes touching the moon and spitting out the bug. Even after it went back to the library, we had requests.

Parent Reaction

This is a sweet, simple story. The black and white illustrations illuminate the night-time scene and keep the little reader focused on the story and the cat and moon images. We'll probably go buy this one for its potential for early reading.

Type of Book:
This book plays to a toddler's innate curiousity about touching things just because they can see them.
Educational Themes:

There's plenty with this one. The fun of discovery and exploring; and the importance of trying and trying again…even if you don't succeed.

2.3

Recommended Age To Read Together:

Purchase Recommendation:
Buy. Even though it's simple and you know the ending, the story doesn't get boring.
