laura and the leprechauns

Summary:
When Laura writes a letter asking if leprechauns are real, Maddy and Be-bub (two leprechauns from Srilannon) decide to visit her for St. Patrick's Day. Hoping to make this a magical experience, they create a special treasure hunt and St. Paddy's Day tea.
Educational Themes:
Although the story takes place on St. Patrick's Day, this is more a fantasy for sharing together. You could easily complement this with other fictional (or non-fictional) stories about St. Paddy's day and leprechauns; or build on the idea of fairy houses by creating a safe haven for leprechauns in your yard.
Reading Level:
0.0
Recommended Age To Read By Yourself:
8 to 10
Recommended Age To Read Together:
5 to 10
Age of child:
Started reading with 6-year-old girl.
Purchase Recommendation:
Borrow, at least. This is a delightful story that you are likely to read over and over again. Younger audiences (preschool) will enjoy the pictures and they are captivating enough that they may sit through the whole page while you read!
Little Kid Reaction:
Our daughter was captivated by the story, and she asked us to read it several nights in a row. Even when we weren't formally reading, she spent lots of extra time enjoying the artwork and tactile elements on the pages.
Big Kid Reaction:
This is a fun story ... and you can readily imagine yourself as lucky as Laura. We also liked the fact that the reading was brought to life with textures on the page. It's something that seems to be left behind for toddler books, but it helps with older listeners, too.
Pros:

This St. Patrick's Day story is a book you can enjoy year 'round. The texture is great for children who are sensory seekers or who need to have something to play with/focus on when you are sharing a story.

Cons:

None.
