This is an anthology of short stories built around sports. Each author shares an experience s/he had while playing and competing in athletics. Each story highlights the determination and effort required to be a successful athelete.
Readers who enjoy sports will find this book a real delight to read. This is an excellent format for enticing reluctant readers to pick up a book.
Lay-ups and Long Shots is very similar in the way its written as Chicken Soup. It is very well written and has great vocabulary, but I didn't like that it was really short and had so few stories. I would definitely recommend this book to my friends who play sports. Lay-ups and Long Shots is a great resource for kids who feel like they could really use a boost when it comes to sports. It is also a good choice for a road trip, or a short flight because it is short and small enough to fit in your carry-on. It is really interesting to read these stories and learn about the amazing things people can accomplish as teens (or younger). All-in-all it was a very good book and I would recommend it to anyone who asks me for a quick read.
This anthology is superbly written. The stories are authentic, the characters are real, and the craftsmanship of the authors is impeccable.
This is a collection of 9 short stories for young readers. This has potential to be a high interest / low readability book for teens struggling with reading skills.
The educational value of this book is that it highlights real stories about real people who are trying to become athletes. The stories provide reality, humor, and perspective that athletes-to-be can rely on as they pursue their goal.
