maggie mcnair has spiders in her hair

Summary:
Maggie didn't like getting her hair brushed. Her mom finally gave up on this daily battle and sent Maggie to bed. That night, her head started to itch and when Maggie realized she had spiders in her hair, she changed her ways.
Educational Themes:
This is mostly a story for engaging young children. There are lessons about taking care of your hair (and by extension your teeth). It may also be an opportunity to talk about head lice, too.

Recommended Age To Read Together:

Age of child:
Read by a 9-year-old girl.
Purchase Recommendation:
Borrow. This is fun to read, but will likely only last a few times.
Little Kid Reaction
The instant my daughter saw this she wanted to read it. It instantly reminded her of Ruthie Bon Bair. She laughed her way through this and commented about how much Maggie's hair was like hers. She also laughed at the spider with lips. [Facial features are very important to her in illustrations.]
Big Kid Reaction
Given her age, I was a little surprised my daughter liked this book. I'm guessing it is because she loves Ruthie so much. The spiders are cute and don't make this scary at all. Each page has a pair of rhyming phrases/sentences. Some work better than others, and some don't rhyme at all. Overall, this is a fun book for preschoolers.
Pros:

Cute illustrations and humor can help parents remind kids about the importance of daily hygiene.

Cons:

Although the illustrations don't show it, some kids may be bothered by the "hundreds of spiders in her hair."
