make your own calendar (2007)

This is a calendar you create. The months have a blank box to create your own drawing, and the border is a collage of month-appropriate things to color. This comes with stickers for holidays, events, feelings, and personal achievements.
Educational Themes:
Although there is little "reading" to be done, there are lots of learning opportunities. You can draw pictures each month, learn the seasons, learn how to read a calendar, use stickers for special events and holidays (and then go research them). The sky is the limit.
Reading Level:
Recommended Age To Read By Yourself:
7 to 10
Recommended Age To Read Together:
5 to 8
Age of child:
Started using with 5-year-old child.
Purchase Recommendation:
Buy if you want to use the calendar for learning, not just documenting time.
Little Kid Reaction:
By April, our child had tired of playing with this calendar. S/He could no longer be encouraged to color the pictures and the stickers were not an allure anymore.
Big Kid Reaction:
We approached creating the calendar as a month-to-month activity, hoping to stretch out the creativity and fun. Our child loves art and drawing (not to mention stickers), and we have had some fun with it. But now it's just ours to do.

This interactive calendar is a combination arts/crafts project, as well as a "drawing board" for introducing holidays, seasons, and time (days, weeks, months). At year's end you'll have a personal treasure.

Your child must REALLY be into coloring to make this an activity that can last all year.
