Michael Recycle

Summary:
When Michael Recycle comes to town, it isn’t because he likes you. It’s because he wants you to pay more attention to your trash and your waste. Read along to see how he helped Abberdoo-Rimey.

Reader Enjoyment Factors:

Kids will giggle about – and instantly pick up – the lessons of recycling and conservation. The tips in the back help make this more than just a fictional story.

Content Awareness Factors:

None.

Little Kid Reaction
Our daughter picked this out from the school library. We read it as soon as she unpacked it from her backpack (her request), and she has asked for it several more times.
Big Kid Reaction
Although rhyming books aren’t my first choice, this is fun to read. The rhyme-scheme works and the wordplay is clever. The illustrations make it fun to just “sit” on the pages and not rush through reading.
Type of Book:
This is a rhyming picture book that encourages kids to recycle. It has suggestions in the back, too.
Educational Themes:
Although couched in humor and rhyme, this is a book about recycling. Deputize your kids as Michael Recycle and use the tips in the back so they can find things they can do at home.
Reading Level:
2.4
Recommended Age To Read By Yourself:
6 to 9
Recommended Age To Read Together:
4 to 8
Age of child:
Started reading with 7-year-old girl.
Purchase Recommendation:
Borrow. Although clever and fun, this is a story that will only take so much reading. It is definitely a book to be checked out at the local or public library.
