mr. biggs in the city | el sr grande en la ciudad

Summary:
A Bigfoot monster named Mr. Biggs tries everything he can think of to have some fun in the city but nothing works until children in a park play with him.
Educational Themes:
The inside cover blurb emphasizes Mr. Biggs' curiosity. There is also plenty of content where you can emphasize perseverance and a positive attitude - even when things don't turn out as expected. The illustrations offer lots of opportunities to explore and ask questions - where are the bees? what's the squirrel doing? With Spanish text at the bottom and vocabulary at the end, you can also pose your questions en espanol.

Purchase Recommendation:
Borrow. Everyone will enjoy the laugh-out-loud moments of this story.
Little Kid Reaction:
Although our daughter was "too old" for this book, she read it - and enjoyed it. She laughed at Mr. Biggs' predicaments and kept a close eye on squirrel on every page.
Big Kid Reaction:
This is a sweet story. The brightly colored illustrations keep it light, though Mr. Biggs is not a scary character at all. What struck me - and what I liked - was the way the author presented the idea that even when something doesn't work out as expected, that doesn't mean you should stop trying new things.
Pros:

Lots of everyday humor and a cute Bigfoot will have young readers asking to hear this story again.

Cons:

None.
