My Mom Has X-ray Vision

A young boy thinks his mom is a superhero with X-ray vision because she always knows what trouble he is getting into. (Hmmmmm...) He tests his theory by hiding in the closet, but his mom doesn't find him. [He doesn't know she's helping a neighbor!] He is disappointed that his mom is just normal and nice, but he loves her anyway. But, maybe she just has eyes in the back of her head...

Reader Enjoyment Factors:

This is a wonderful story. The subject appeals to young kids (particularly boys, but this would be a great "strong girl" role model book, too). Fun and exciting pictures give lots for kids to look at.

Content Awareness Factors:

Little Kid Reaction

They LOVED this book. LOVED LOVED LOVED it! I have three boys, so this really tapped in to their natural love for superheroes. They couldn't get enough of reading and re-reading this book. The pictures are energizing, filled with stars and circles and swoops that make it feel like the original Batman or Wonderwoman TV shows. The story is exciting to the kids because it's about superheroes. And it's all about Mom, so it's something that little kids tend to know a lot about.

Parent Reaction

"I LOVED this book for many reasons: 1) because my boys loved it. 2) Because it puts MOM in the category of where the boys are already finding their heroes. 3) Because the pictures are wonderful. 4) And because it portrays MOM as a SUPER HERO.

I also thought there was a side of the book that was written for mom and dad, too. A bit of humor about what parents have to go through with kids getting in to trouble, and recognizing that you HAVE to be a superhero in order to be a parent!

Type of Book:
This picture book adds perspective to a child\'s perception of what a superhero is!
Educational Themes:

Although this is probably a \"just for fun\" book, you can draw out a couple of things. First, manners and respect for mom (and others). It also promotes creative/imaginative play -- the main character plays dragons and wizards.

Reading Level:
Recommended Age To Read By Yourself:
7 to 10
Recommended Age To Read Together:
2 to 6
Age of child:
Read with children ages 2,4, and 6.
Purchase Recommendation:
Buy. This is a book you will read over and over and over for a wide range of ages -- ages 2 to 6 (or older). Parents will love it just as much as the kids.
