Who doesn't love a magically talented character with spunk?

Morrigan Crow, daughter of the famous Chancellor Corvus Crow, calls Jackalfax her hometown. Because she was born on Eventide, the last day of the year, she is cursed and accused of all the nearby misfortunes. On the day of her eleventh birthday - the day she’s destined to die - Morrigan is whisked away to the magical city of Nevermoor by a stranger named Jupiter North.

In this enchanting place, Morrigan begins to feel more at home than ever, even as she endures four trials to win a place in the “Wundrous Society,” an elite school and organization of talented people. As Morrigan learns in her trials,  "wunder," dazzling threads of magic, makes everything possible: from the talking creatures called wunimals, to the talented people with skills such as breathing underwater, riding dragons, or mesmerizing others. The streets of Nevermoor are magical, too. They can be helpful, leading to other roads, or deadly, growing narrower as you venture farther through them.

BTSYA / Teen Reader (13):
Nevermoor is a magical, adventurous book, the first in a truly “wundrous” series! First, the reader learns about this fascinating world right alongside Morrigan. This captivating novel provides a fresh, unique twist on the idea of magic. I especially love the beautiful build-up to the revelation of Morrigan’s “knack” or talent at the end of the book. While subtle hints of Morrigan’s ability are woven seamlessly into the storyline right from the beginning, the final clue arrives shortly after the fourth and final trial. With shadows, smoke, and “wunder,” both readers and Morrigan confirm their predictions of her talent are confirmed in this epic reveal

I definitely recommend this book for those ages 9 and older who love magic, adventure, and a touch of mystery!
