olive, the other reindeer

Summary:

Olive, a beagle-ish dog, pitches in to help with Christmas deliveries, and, a la Rudolph, only Olive can save Christmas in the end.

Educational Themes:
Whether you want to remind kids to dream beyond themselves, not to judge others' talents, or just have some fun laughing, you'll find some values in this book.
Reading Level:
3.4
Recommended Age To Read By Yourself:
8 to 10
Recommended Age To Read Together:
3 to 8
Age of child:
Read to kids age 3 and 6 years old.
Purchase Recommendation:
Buy. It's cute.
Little Kid Reaction:

Older kids get the pun (Olive, the other reindeer--sing it to the Rudolph song) and younger ones think it's funny that a dog things she's a reindeer and tries to help out at the North Pole.

Big Kid Reaction:

It's a cute story, and your kids may have even seen the Christmas special with this book as its basis.

Pros:

It is a short, well-written story about helping out in a pinch. Plus, as the whimsical cover notes, "Requires no batteries."

Cons:

The 70's style artwork got to me after awhile; avocado, orange and brown don't seem like Christmas colors.
