Kizzy is a star! When Kizzy travels around town for her job with R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dogs), TV reporter Summer Brown and her cameraman follow along. Kizzy shows Summer all of the ways she helps children and adults learn to read.
This is a positive story, with life lessons and new learning for everyone. The vocabulary and pattern is perfect for emerging readers of any age! It may even give them some ideas on new ways to practice their skill.
Our preschooler is a dog lover extraordinaire. S/He thought Kizzy was "really cool" and had questions along he way about the people Kizzy helped. S/He wanted to learn more about them and their particular circumstance. BTSYA Teen Reviewer: This is a great book for starting readers because it can help with their reading even though they don’t have Kizzy to help him. I wouldn’t recommend this book to my friends, but this book is good for 6 year olds and under.
This is a refreshing story, with something for everyone. The black and white illustrations help keep the focus on the story.
This is an early reader series that celebrates amazing dogs.
Most directly, the story explains who R.E.A.D. dogs are and whom they help. There are ways to both expand on and personalize the story, particularly for people just learning to read. Topics might include: making fun of or judging others, empathy and compassion, and dog training.

Buy. The book is fun to share with pre-readers, who, when they are learning to read, will find the story supportive of their own situation (particularly when they make mistakes).
