Today is a day for the boys in the family! Come along as father and son as they go on an adventure en route to la casa de abuelos (grandparents’ house).
Brightly colored illustrations and lots of activity will engage pre-readers in this story about the adventures of a father and son.
The story is essentially a chronological sequence of events. There is dialogue, but no character development other than what you draw from the images.
When we read bilingual books, our daughter prefers books like this one, that embed some vocabulary in the story. Although she listened and followed the story to the end, it hasn’t been a book she wants to come back to.
The illustrations grabbed us immediately, as did the artwork (vocabulary in English and Spanish) on the end papers. The story, though, wasn’t as engaging as the images that show obvious joy between father and son. The collection of Spanish words go beyond your normal nouns, we just wished there had been more of them.
This bilingual story embeds Spanish in a mostly-English text to celebrate the father and child relationship.
Use this story to talk about and celebrate family: traditions, relationships, feelings. The embedded Spanish offers an added benefit, but you don’t need it to tell the story.

This is a nice story. It would make a good book to share between father and son or paternal grandparents and a child.
