parasite (parasitology)

Summary:

Sal Mitchell was in a terrible accident. She spent five years in a coma, then suddenly woke up. When she did, she discovers a company called Symbogen, which provides the population with parasites that boost the immune system and cure any disease. When the parasites trying to take over the host's body start causing sickness, disease is spreading everywhere. It's up to Sal and her friends to stop the epidemic! Can she do it?

Educational Themes:

This is a thrilling adventure. It does create opportunities to talk about genetic engineering and bio-science. It would be a good choice for teen book clubs.

Young Reader Reaction

Parasite is a "contagious thriller" that was a huge adventure for me. Mira Grant is an amazing author who knows how to write good science fiction type thriller books. I give it a 9 out of 10 stars. It has fast paced action and thrills that sent chills down my spine. I read it from start to finish in one sitting. I can't wait to read the sequel soon and I would definitely recommend Parasite for anyone in high school or older. If you see it, pick it up and start reading. It's the best thriller you'll read and you won't be able to put it down.

Pros:

Lots of spine-tingling action keep you turning the page from start to finish.

Cons:

None.
