Postcards From Washington, Dc / Postales Desde Washington Dc

Anna and her family are visiting Washington, DC. Each day, she sends a postcard to friends and family to show them what she has seen and tell them a little bit about what she learned visiting all the monuments and important places in the nation's capital.

Reader Enjoyment Factors:

Kids can enjoy this simply-presented photographic tour of Washington, DC. Facts and trivia are just enough to keep them reading.

Content Awareness Factors:

Although billed as bilingual, most of the book is in English. The opening paragraph and the 3 facts on each page are in Spanish, but not the daily postcards themselves.

Little Kid Reaction

Our daughter asked us to read this book several nights in a row. After just two readings, she could remember some of the places without any reminders.

Big Kid Reaction

This is a great collection of facts and places. In addition to the usual spots (Lincoln Memorial, White House), the author includes photos for other locations you don't often see in children's books: Arlington National Cemetery, The Bureau of Engraving, and Union Station. We liked how the author created a postcard note and a list of three facts for each site.

Type of Book:
This is part of the Traveling with Anna bilingual picture book series.
Educational Themes:

The author packs a lot of stuff into this picture book. You can learn and/or practice your Spanish; collect facts about various buildings/monuments and their construction and purpose; study US history; and travel the nation's capital.
