Read All About It!

Summary:

Tyrone likes school. Well, he likes everything but reading. He tolerates his teacher reading books to the class. Then one day, the story she is reading captures his attention. The characters come alive and appear in the classroom as his teacher is reading. What does Tyrone think of reading now?

Reader Enjoyment Factors:

This picture book introduces reading as a fun activity and offers an engaging way to get them to "reconsider" their opinion about reading.

Content Awareness Factors:

None.

Little Kid Reaction

My daughter loved the book. As soon as we opened the first page, she sat up straighter and leaned in to make sure she wasn’t missing something! She enjoyed that Tyrone thought he wouldn’t like books and ends up enjoying them. She wanted me to introduce all of the characters that appear in the classroom.

Parent Reaction

I loved the book. The drawings were great, and the story moved quickly but with a purpose. Tyrone's discovery that he likes books is a great way to encourage other children to let someone read them some stories.

Type of Book:
This is a book that helps kids understand that reading is an adventure for your mind.
Educational Themes:

Although this is a story about reading, there is a broader message: don’t be so negative about something until you try it. As for reading, it helps younger kids visualize the idea that reading can take you places you may never be able to physically go.
