Annie is a cement dragon that comes to life at night, when she searches the river and lagoons for a magical cave her Mother told her to find. She misses her parents, especially her Mother, and loves it when families have picnics with children playing around her. Although she can’t communicate with humans, Annie talks to the animals. Her search for the cave was a search for immortality and re-birth. A cormorant helps Annie in her quest as Annie learns lessons of love, perseverance, and the fun of having wings!
While most will enjoy the story for the way it creates vivid imagery from words, there are plenty of other elements to the story you can build from: preservation, myths and legends, respect, friendship, family, learning local history.

Teen STAR Review Team, Be the Star You Are!™ Also shared with a 4-year-old girl.
Borrow. This is a fun book to share. We recommend it not only for kids in Florida, but for the young at heart everywhere.
It is fantastic to read a book that is written by a mother and daughter! River Dragon wins for both beauty of the illustrations partnered with a wonderful fairy tale. All kids love stories about dragons-especially sweet dragons. I believe in dragons and hope to visit that magical place called Dragon Island.
We enjoyed this story. Our preschooler was intrigued by the cover, and I was amazed that s/he stayed with the story, as there aren't a lot of pictures along the way.
Everyone on our STAR team who read this book, really adored the story, the pictures, and the music. The CD in the book features Kira and Diane reading the book, plus a wonderful song that will inspire you.
