Grace (17) has spent years watching the wolves in the woods behind her house. One - a yellow-eyed wolf - watches her back. Grace thinks it looks familiar, but she doesn't know why. When she hears a wolf has been shot, she comes home to see a boy, Sam, lying on her porch. She realizes the yellow-eyed wolf is Sam, a boy bitten by a wolf years ago. For Grace and Sam, love has always been at a distance, but now that it is spoken, can it last?

Reader Enjoyment Factors:

This is good book for people who like wolves and fantasy.

Content Awareness Factors:

Young Reader Reaction

Robbinsdale student: I picked this book because the title made me want to read it. The word "shiver" brought a lot of words to my mind. After I read the first chapter I thought it would be a really nice book. I didn't like the book because it's about a yellow-eyed wolf who was in the woods.

Young Reader Reaction

BTSYA reader: This is a love story about two people trying to figure out how they can be together. It is full of action, romance, and happiness, but it can also be dark and depressing at times. This novel is a page turner, with every chapter a cliff-hanger. I really enjoy the chemistry between Sam and Grace, and how easy it is for them to be around each other. It is a cute love story, but also has the elements of survival and animal instincts.

The book got a little slow at times in the middle of chapters. I sometimes wondered why a certain chapter was needed. It is a good, but it also seems like a very similar version of Twilight in the sense that there are young lovers and werewolves and the couples have to find ways to be together.

I would recommend Shiver to Twilight fans. I would recommend this to teenage girls and even adults.
