Spring Is Here! A Story About Seeds

Summary:

A colony of ants celebrates the coming of spring. Ants plant some seeds, see the rain, and watch the seeds grow into plants and flowers.

Young Readers (4, 6):
My boys really liked the bright illustrations and easy words. We read this lots of times.

Parent Perspective:
"I liked this book OK. The format of the text is just a few words built to create rhymes for various ants' names. The text definitely challenges early readers because each page has an ant's name (Joe, Kate, Tor, Jane, etc.), so kids are exposed to a wide variety of digraphs in a very short book. Each page has only 4 words, so the length is not an issue. I have seen more books with this few numbers of words in the book that tries to focus on exposing readers to one or two digraphs at a time.

Reader Enjoyment Factors:

Short, 4-word phrases and rhymes will give new readers confidence. In addition to fun, colorful illustrations, kids get science, too.

Content Awareness Factors:

Kids need to absorb LOTS of different digraphs in a short span.
