Stranger Danger!
With rhyming text, the author speaks directly to children, presenting easily recognized scenarios with "solutions" for how the child should act.
The rhymes make the scenes easy to present and easy to remember for kids. The CD is a great help.
Included with the other Parental Tips, it would be helpful to have some synonyms for "stranger" that parents can use. "Stranger" to many young minds, connotes "alien."
Our preschooler was transfixed by the text. When we finished reading, and before we could ask questions, our preschooler started listing people she knows. She listens to the CD ALL the time.
We purposely had no fanfare when we read the book, and clearly the message hit its mark with the first reading. We had been struggling with the best way to introduce the concept to our very gregarious child, without killing her exuberant personality. This did the trick!
This is a picture book that teaches kids personal safety.
This is a book for teachers and parents to use as a springboard for discussions about the reality of "bad people."
