Sunny Bunnies

Summary:

It is a beautiful day and the family is going to the beach in Carrot Cake Park. Sister has a list of all of the things they will do, brother packs the bucket and butterfly net. The day is full of fun things, and after a beach campfire, it's time to go home.

Reader Enjoyment Factors:

Kids will love this trip to the beach. Young kids will enjoy the story; emerging readers can practice their skills with this comfortable read.

Content Awareness Factors:

None, really. Nearly every sentence ends with an exclamation point, and that does get old.

Little Kid Reaction

We read this book just before vacation. Our daughter liked the book and focused on the things she wanted to do at the beach. We read this book as partners. There are plenty of basic sight words; there are no more than two sentences per page; and the rhyming scheme makes it easy to learn new words.

Parent Reaction

The story is quite basic and will most likely be enjoyed a lot more times by a much younger audience. The illustrations are very well done and complement the story well. We liked that it gave us a summer-time opportunity to practice reading with our rising first grader.

Type of Book:
Explore a summer's day with two bunnies in this picture book for young readers.
Educational Themes:

This would make a great book for toddlers and preschoolers. You can practice object identification, play I Spy (colors, shapes), and introduce the beach all at the same time. There are lots of activities in each illustration that aren't captured in the text, giving you lots of opportunities to engage pre-readers and ask questions about what is happening.

Reading Level:
0.0
Recommended Age To Read By Yourself:
6 to 9
Recommended Age To Read Together:
2 to 6
Age of child:
Shared with nearly 7-year-old child.
Purchase Recommendation:
Borrow. This is a cute story. It is mostly geared to a pre-reading audience, but it does give emerging readers practice with their sight words.
