In an effort to save himself from a hungry lion, Sylvester makes a wish that turns him into a rock. He cannot return to his normal self without some assistance. Ultimately, his distraught parents discover the pebble and Sylvester makes just the right wish to return to his former, donkey self.
The story is fairly straight forward, with few "named" characters, making it simple for a toddler to follow the plot.

The Sylvester book was a must-read in our house for several weeks. Even months later, we still are asked to pull it down periodically.
This is a story that will remind you of the fables you read as a kid. It's fairly wordy, but even our keep-busy reader sat still for the book almost all of the time.
The story has the feel of a classic fable.
This is a classic be-careful-what-you-wish-for tale.
