tea for ruby

Summary:

The beautiful pink invitation asks Ruby to come to a tea party on Sunday ... to meet the Queen! Everywhere she goes, she talks about the invitation. Everyone she talks to reminds her of the manners she will need: don’t shout or interrupt; and be sure to say please and thank you. When she wakes up on Sunday, she is very. In her head, she plays over and over the reminders of how to act. Her parents drop her off at the tea and she discovers that the party is at her grandmother’s house!

Educational Themes:

Although you're likely to be drawn to the manners reminders, the story can be much more than that. There are themes of family; the fun of surprises; the idea that we are each special; and that using our imagination can be fun, too.

Purchase Recommendation:
Buy! This is a great book for a grandmother to buy for her granddaughter. It is also a good book to share with any little girl who thinks she has to be somebody important to be special. I would say buy it for any little girl.
Little Kid Reaction

My daughter picked this book because of the cover. She liked how Ruby looked fancy in her clothes. Then we read it, and she loved it. She liked all the manners everyone was reminding Ruby about. She also liked how they showed Ruby getting reading and dressing up. On the other side of the page they showed how Ruby was imagining the event she was dressing for was going to look like.

Parent Reaction

I enjoyed the whole story; and I loved the pictures. I liked that Ruby enjoys getting dressed up and that the adults made her wait a while before going to meet the queen. I especially liked that the queen was her grandmother who was waiting to spend time with just her. I knew she would like the pictures but was pleasantly surprised she enjoyed the story as well.

Pros:

Beautiful pictures and a believable, easy-to-follow story will engage and delight girls, their moms, and their grandmothers, too. The book offers a good example of a loving relationship between a granddaughter and her grandmother.

Cons:

None.
