teach us, amelia bedelia (i can read, 2)

Summary:
Amelia Bedelia's boss asks her to go by the school and let the principal know that the new teacher will be late in getting to school. Amelia goes to the school, but before she can tell the principal the whole story, he gives gives her a list of things that need to be done. He takes her to the classroom and leaves here there with the students and the list. What is Amelia going to do? Start working on the list. Project 1: paint pictures with the children. Amelia asks the children to empty all the walls of pictures and then start painting them whatever colors they want! Is that what the principal meant?
Educational Themes:
In addition to being a good practice reader, the book (and the series) offer great opportunities to talk about life, especially how misunderstandings happen. Some words have two meanings, sometimes people aren't explicit in their directions, and why its important to ask if you don't understand something.
Reading Level:
1.9
Recommended Age To Read By Yourself:
7 to 10
Recommended Age To Read Together:
4 to 8
Age of child:
Read with a 5-year-old girl.
Purchase Recommendation:
Borrow, at least. The stories are funny and the kids will go back to the illustrations for an extra laugh. You are likely to find this (or others in the series) in every school and public library. If not, ask for it!
Little Kid Reaction
I picked this book and watched as my daughter laugh each time Amelia had the kids do something funny. She enjoyed the story and liked the funny activities they children did.
Big Kid Reaction
This is a fun book. I wasn’t sure my daughter would understand all the tasks but I was surprised that she picked up right away the mistakes and laughed and enjoyed the book. It is a great way to talk about how words work (e.g., some have two meanings).
Pros:

Lots of humor and plenty of action engage kids in this easy reader for second graders.

Cons:

None.
