Not your quiet Tree-top getaway!

Summary:

Andy and Terry live in a 13-story treehouse. The two are supposed to be writing their next book. But with a bowling alley, a tank full of sharks, a library filled with comics, and a secret underground laboratory (just to name a few things) to distract them, not much progress is being made. Will they ever finish it?

BTSYA / Teen Reader (14):
I enjoyed this book a lot. The illustrations and text together create a funny and entertaining book. With its mix of narrative and comics, it is a great choice for younger readers, especially those getting back into "school mode." It is a short, fairly quick read and could be a confidence booster for those who are semi-reluctant to read.  The plot is very simple and pretty straightforward. There aren't any big, thought-provoking themes, but it is entertaining.

I would recommend this book for 8- to 12- year old boys as a gift. The amazing illustrations and funny humor make it a story you can pick up a few years later and still enjoy.

Reader Enjoyment Factors:

Great illustrations, humor, and over-the-top events and amenities will have readers wishing for a deluxe treehouse of their own.

Content Awareness Factors:

Several Amazon.com reviewers noted that the mermaid/sea monster can be disturbing to some young readers or listeners. She is very straightforward in describing her plans to kill and devour the boys. Others also commented that it perpetuates sexist ideas and introduces romance to an audience that may not be ready for it.

Type of Book:
This is an illustrated chapter book / graphic novel with lots of fantasy humor!
Educational Themes:

This is a story for fun, so prompt your child's imagination and have them tell you about (or draw) their own treehouse.

  • If you could build a treehouse, what would its features be?
  • What would you do there?
  • What would your rules be?
