Diana's questions are answered, and so are yours.

Summary:

Diana and Matthew have returned from Elizabethan England to the present. Bringing with them old challenges, and facing new ones, as well. Diana - now a de Clermont - is committed to obtaining the missing pages of Ashmole 782. The couple is expecting, and Matthew is continuing his genetics research to find out how 2 supernaturals of different species can have a child. The two are also determined to exact justice on the witches and vampires who have wronged them. The challenges are big - dealing with Benjamin, Matthew's son and addressing the Congregation, for two - and the time to resolve them is small.

Note: This is a book written for an adult audience. It has appeal to high school readers who like vampires, fantasy, time travel, and romance. It is for mature audiences.

BTSYA / Teen Reader (15):
The Book of Life is by far my most favorite in this series. It has an engaging plot, old characters come back, and new ones are introduced. There are so many characters I now have an emotional connection to. My top six favorites are going to have to be Chris, Jack, Diana, Marcus, Phillip, and Gallowglass. Matthew is one of the main characters, but I had a hard time connecting to him due to his tendency to shy away from the truth. Chris is very sweet to Diana and the Bishops, and is by far one of the funniest characters in the series. He brings so much life and each time he is there I know for a fact that I’m going to laugh. He has this fun uncle vibe. Jack is so unbelievably kind, and when I read about his past, I immediately started crying, For someone so caring, I can’t imagine how painful his life must have been. Yet here he is with a happy smile. Diana's courage and bravery are admirable, but she also is also compassionate toward those she loves and will protect them with her entire soul. She is a woman I aspire to become. She has a heart of gold and deserves the whole world, which Matthew is glad to give. Marcus also continues to breathe life into my body. He and Chris are the life of the party, bringing laughter and fun wherever they go. Marcus earned more of my respect after he took over for Matthew. Phillipe is hard to explain. He exudes power and strength in every one of his pores, yet he remains somewhat humble. He is proud of his achievements and family, is very forgiving, and can easily bring comfort to anyone he considers family.

I left my favorite character for last. Gallowglass is so complex but also easily understandable. When it was revealed why he protects Diana with such fierceness, my heart immediately shattered for him. In my opinion, not enough people appreciate Gallowglass, since he poses as a threat to the couple, but his intentions always remained pure throughout the series. I sincerely hope that he gets a side story or receives something that brings him happiness. Although the six characters are very different, each of them tie this story together, emphasizing the importance of laughter and love in a family.

Unlike the previous two books, The Book of Life dives deeper into Diana’s emotional connection with people and, ultimately, answers all of her unsolved questions. The couple's love for each other continues to grow and defy all laws of nature. The series will make you cry and laugh at the same time! It was an experience I will never forget and I plan on re-reading this series several times! Overall, this book is an exceptional story that teaches lessons about the importance of love in all relationships, no matter the people.

I recommend this book to people 16 and older, There are very graphic scenes of torture, sexual abuse, intimate scenes, and cussing which may be too graphic for some. The Book of Life has a great message, and touches sensitive topics such as discrimination due to one’s skin (species).
