The Christmas Secret

Summary:

Christmas is almost here, and 7-year-old Josh Miller is driving everyone crazy. He knows the “Secret of Christmas” and expects that Santa Claus will bring him every item on his list. With just a week to go before Christmas, Josh’s dad lost his job. But all Josh could think about was presents. On Christmas Eve, Matty, Josh’s 4-year-old brother, was rushed to the hospital to have a life threatening tumor removed. This event was a wake-up call for Josh. Now he needs to repair lots of damage. Is there enough time?

Reader Enjoyment Factors:

This is a wholesome Christmas story that children and parents will find enjoyable.

Content Awareness Factors:

None.

Little Kid Reaction

We struggled to get our 8-year-old to sit and listen to this.

Big Kid Reaction

This is a seasonal story that would be good to have in the classroom on the Monday after Thanksgiving. The story is authentic, the theme is clear, and the characters are believable. I would give this an 8 out of 10 for seasonal stories.

Type of Book:
This is a seasonal chapter book that frames the holiday in the broader picture of what's important in life.
Educational Themes:

The story brings home the theme that giving and receiving presents is not the primary function of the Christmas holiday. This is a useful resource for parents, teachers, or Sunday School guides.
