The Coastwatcher

Summary:

Welcome to South Carolina’s Low Country. It is August 1943, and the nation is reeling: we're still recovering from the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor; dealing with the Polio epidemic; and afraid of German submarine attacks along the eastern seaboard. Hugh, his sister Sally, and cousin Tom were too young to join the services but they certainly did their part protect and serve their community.

Although the stories are fictional, the author has crafted them and the characters so well that the reader feels entirely engaged. This may be Elise Weston's first novel, but it is an outstanding debut. I am anxiously awaiting her next work.
