The Festival Of Stones; Autumn And Winter Tales Of Tiptoes Lightly
Lightly is a fairy who lives in an oak tree on Farmer Jones’ farm. She is the community organizer for the seasonal holidays celebrated by all of nature’s creatures. The poetry, imagery, characters, and fairy tales delight the children who listen to or read them.
This is a fascinating book by an extraordinarily imaginative writer/teacher. There is great value to this work. The whole time I read it I could imagine the faces of 5 or 6 year olds listening to the stories.
Mr. Down doesn’t write for grown-ups! (If you consider that a negative.)
This book is beautifully illustrated with images that show Halloween, Christmas, and The Festival of Animals. Unfortunately, I cannot say that Tip-Toes is my favorite story. I prefer Tinkerbell to Tip-Toes, and I wasn't really drawn in. Smaller kids, maybe first or second graders, would enjoy this book. Even though they cannot read well, their parents could read it to them. They are old enough to understand what’s going on.
In addition to being a writer, Mr. Down is a wizard. With some help from Tiptoes Lightly and a few of her friends, he conjures up stories and myths associated with the seasons, in this case, Autumn and Winter, that captivate and fascinate his readers and listeners.
This volume of the Tiptoes Lightly series focuses on the celebrations observed in autumn and winter.
Seasonal change is an important and unique natural process. The stories recounted in this book provide ways for children to understand and appreciate this natural phenomenon.
